1. Identify Your Core Values

The first step to understanding your motivations in life is to identify your core values. These are the beliefs and principles that you hold dear, and that guide your decisions and actions.

These include family, friendship, loyalty, honesty, helping others, and hard work. By understanding what matters to you, you can better understand how to prioritize your time and energy.

List your core values and keep them visible so you can reflect on them daily.

2. Evaluate Your Goals

Once you have identified your values, it is time to evaluate your goals. Review all the goals you have set for yourself and ask if they align with your core values and beliefs.

If they are not, it may be time to reconsider them. Additionally, figure out the steps needed to reach the goals. Taking the time to break down the steps toward reaching a goal can help you stay motivated and on track.

Writing down the steps and tracking your progress can also be incredibly helpful in helping you stay motivated.

3. Make a List of Activities You Find Enjoyable

This can be anything from playing a sport you love, cooking, hiking, playing video games, watching movies, or volunteering in the community. It’s important to remember that these activities don’t have to be directly related to your goals and can be activities you enjoy.

4. Find Role Models Who Inspire You

Finding role models who inspire you is essential to understanding what motivates you. Look for people who have achieved something great or have a lifestyle that you aspire to, and learn from them.

Talk to them, hear their stories, and see what you can learn from their positive experiences. Finding a mentor or coach can also be helpful, as they can provide guidance and support while you work towards your goals.

By having these inspiring role models to look up to and learn from, you can tap into an extra source of motivation to help you stay on the right path.

5. Take Time to Reflect on Your Progress

This is a critical step in understanding your motivation. After taking steps 1-4, take some time to look at the progress that you have made honestly.

This is an important part of understanding why you make your choices. Reflection on your progress will help you identify what motivates and is holding you back.

Additionally, taking a step back and reflecting on your progress will allow you to make any necessary adjustments to your goals to ensure that you are on track to reach them.
